Who runs this site

October 1962 at cubancrisis1962.com is a personal history site run by Julian Mullins, who is responsible for the personal information handled for this project. For privacy questions or requests, email hello@cubancrisis1962.com.

Reading the website

There are no visitor accounts, contact forms, advertising or mailing-list sign-ups. Fonts and images are served with the website. You do not need to give your name or email address to read it.

The production website is configured for Cloudflare hosting. Delivering and protecting a website involves processing connection information such as IP addresses, requested addresses, browser information and request times. Hosting and security logs are separate from the visit statistics described below.

Cloudflare Web Analytics

The production site is configured to use Cloudflare Web Analytics for aggregate visits and page-loading performance. Its JavaScript beacon sends measurements to Cloudflare. Cloudflare describes Web Analytics as cookie-free, without browser-storage identifiers or fingerprinting to track individual visitors. Read about Web Analytics and how its measurements are collected.

This site’s analytics loader runs only on cubancrisis1962.com, excluding local and preview visits. It respects Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals. With JavaScript disabled, the beacon does not run.

Your analytics choice

You can turn off analytics in this browser below. The site saves only this preference in local storage, under cubancrisis-no-stats. It remains until you change the choice or clear this site’s browser data. It is not an identifier and is not shared between devices. The change applies on subsequent page loads; it cannot recall measurements already sent.

Site search

Search runs in your browser using a downloaded Pagefind index, without an external search provider. Search terms appear in the page address so you can bookmark or share a search. That address may remain in browser history and may reach the host when you load or share it. Please avoid putting private information into search.

When you email

Messages to the public contact address are forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing to my mailbox. Cloudflare and the provider hosting that mailbox process messages to deliver, protect and store them. I receive your email address, any name you provide, your message and attachments, and normal email header information.

I use correspondence to answer questions, check corrections, research the history, resolve rights queries and keep records of permissions. Sending an email does not subscribe you to marketing. I do not publish private correspondence, your contact details or a personal account you contribute without agreeing with you what may be published and how it will be credited.

Why information is used

Where personal information is needed to run and secure the site, answer correspondence or check sources and permissions, the basis is legitimate interests in maintaining an accurate, accessible history project. Only information relevant to those purposes is used. If publication of a contribution relies on your consent, I will ask for it and you can withdraw it by email; withdrawal does not change the lawfulness of earlier use.

Sharing and international processing

I do not sell personal information. Service providers process information for hosting, security, analytics and email delivery. Information may also be disclosed where legally required. External archive, film and source links lead to websites with their own privacy arrangements.

Cloudflare operates internationally, so its processing can take place outside the UK. Its privacy policy explains its international processing and transfer safeguards. You can contact me for information about the providers and safeguards relevant to your correspondence.

How long information is kept

Routine correspondence is kept only while needed to handle the enquiry and any follow-up. Records supporting corrections, image permissions or source provenance may be needed for as long as the relevant material is used, and afterwards where necessary to resolve a rights query or meet a legal obligation. Messages are reviewed and deleted when no longer needed for those purposes.

Hosting logs and analytics records follow the provider’s applicable retention settings. The analytics preference on your device remains under your control as explained above.

Your rights and choices

You can ask to access or correct personal information, request deletion or restriction, and, where applicable, receive portable data. These rights depend on the circumstances and are not absolute. You do not have to provide information by email, although without it I may be unable to answer an enquiry.

You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Contact hello@cubancrisis1962.com to exercise a right or raise a concern. I may need enough information to confirm the request is yours. There is no automated decision-making or profiling with legal or similarly significant effects on this site.

You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
